Welcome Back, Piano Family!

Saturday, July 25, 2020 by Christine Wright | Uncategorized

Hello friends! I hope this email finds you and your family well! I've missed you all so much! This has been a very different kind of summer for us. We've all been blessed with good health and my husband being able to work from home. And we were able to go as a family to Colorado Springs since Doug had work there. Let me say, 19 hours is a looong time to drive! But we had a great time! And I've loved the extra family time we've had, especially since our oldest, Abigail, will be leaving for college soon. I can't wait to hear about your summer, too!

I wanted to wait to contact everyone after the school system announcement. I know both teachers and parents are in a hard spot right now and I'd like to make things as easy as possible for you! So I will be teaching both online and in person. I'd love for you to sign up for a regular time but we can change the location from week to week to suit your needs. All I need is just a little heads up to know which to be prepared for. Here are the in home precautions I will be setting up:

1. One student in the house at a time. Unfortunately, this will mean no families waiting inside the house and no access to the bathroom.
2. Touchless temp check and hand sanitizer at the door.
3. Shoes taken off and left outside on the porch.
4. Masks worn by the student and myself.
5. Students will bring all their own supplies (Pencils, books, etc.). All assignments and tracking of points (instead of bucks) will be virtual. I'm looking at making my piano store online ordering for the students to spend the bucks that they earned from last year!
 6. Separate instruments - my piano and my full size, weighted keyboard side by side with plexiglass in between. This way the student is surrounded by walls and the divider on 3 sides but we can still see each other and play duets.

 7. 10 minute breaks between each lesson so no contact between students and time to clean everything.

8. Instead of the piano store they can earn points for specific prizes at the end of the month.
9. Piano parties on Zoom. I'm thinking I could schedule a pick up time for snacks that families could drop by and pick up before the party so we could have snack time together! (Maybe?) I've found some virtual games that might be fun to play together. We might also have some outdoor concerts when the weather isn't sweltering hot!
10. I'd like to retry the Tonora app to help with the community of the students. In this time of isolation I think it would be so good if they could have a way to communicate and encourage each other. I could break up the kids in chat groups according to age so they could send each other encouraging messages and stickers. This would all be monitored by me.

If you can think of any other ideas I'd love the input! Please know I want to make your child's well being my first priority! I know we can make this a wonderful school year full of music!
Please reply to the email I sent to RSVP for the year and I'll be sending a way for you to sign up for your lesson time soon! If you'd let me know your primary preference for online or in person that would also be a big help! Again, changes can be made anytime! Oh, and just a sneak peek into this year's new theme:) image.png

Take care and have a wonderful week,
Christine Wright
